Sonic Adventure Gaiden was a fan game created by Kulock in 2001. Having seen the Sonic fan game scene expand in the wake of the internet, the development of game creation tools, and the release of Sonic Adventure causing the rise of the online Sonic communities, Kulock decided to create his own Sonic fan game with very memorable results.

Sonic Adventure Gaiden takes place just after the events of Sonic Adventure and like many fan games, has at its centre of its plot, Sonic battling once again against Robotnik. There is good mp3 quality music, a good ranged of edited sprites, a robust engine, actual voices and generally high production qualities. Players were had pressed to see any glitches during gameplay and level design never got repetitive. The game ensured players did not get tired of beating the same enemy over and over again and kept player interested from start to finish, always giving a clear line of progression that made getting stuck or held back in any way virtually impossible.

On release, the game gained plenty of recognition, with people who had completed it often talking about their experiences with others who had done the same. Kulock even created page for those who had completed it, explaining his motivations and reasons for developing it in the first place.

Trivia

  • There is actually a cheat for the game hidden in the readme instruction manual, since Kulock figured given how few people read manuals, those that do should be rewarded for their effort.
