Sonic Adventure coverart.

Sonic Adventure is the first 3D Sonic the Hedgehog title released for the Dreamcast in Japan in 1998,
and later in the US on September 9th, 1999. It was met with mostly positive reviews. The title started the whole
"Eggman awakens ancient monster" trend which has been used as the same tired storyline over and over again in every Sonic
title since. In the game, Sonic is on a vacation to Station Square, a giant New York-like city by the beach, where he meets
an aquatic monster known as Chaos. Sonic later learns that Dr. Eggman intends to feed Chaos the seven Chaos Emeralds
in order to 'perfect' him and rule the world. Sonic races off to find the Emeralds before Eggman can, while meeting
up with old friends like Miles "Tails" Prower Knuckles the Echinda and Amy Rose, as well as new friends Tikal the
Echinda, Big the Cat and E-102 Gamma.

The game allowed players to access a special website through the built-in Dreamcast Browser to download content
such as Christmas Trees in Station Square, voice files for the menu screens, and also featured an online rankings
board where players could upload their hi-scores. It also marked the first appaearance of Chao, cuddly creatures you
can raise and race against other Chao.

In 2003, Sonic Adventure was re-released for Nintendo GameCube, as "Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut" It recieved
generally poor reviews for its lack of updates from the 1999 original.
