El-Hazard is an anime and manga franchise from the mid-to-late nineties, which has been enjoyed by a number of SERfers.[citation needed]
Although details change between different continuities, each version starts from the same basic premise. Four ordinary people--high school student Mizuhara Makoto, his unhinged unintentional rival Jinnai Katsuhiko, Jinnai's younger sister Nanami, and alcoholic teacher Fujisawa Masamichi--find themselves unexpectedly transported to an alternate universe, where the land of Roshtaria is under attack by the insectoid species known as the Bugrom. Makoto, Nanami, and Fujisawa discover that they have mysteriously gained new abilities, and are drawn into the conflict as Princess Rune Venus sends Makoto to gain the support of three elemental priestesses, so they can activate the Eye of God and win the war. Meanwhile, the Bugrom have become more effective, as their leader Queen Diva has been joined by... Jinnai. And somewhere, there's an ancient weapon of mass destruction in the form of a woman named Ifurita.
